In Criminal Conspiracy 2014 Degrees of Freedom took over the Old Police Station in Deptford for two days on 27th and 28th of June 2014 in collaboration with Cluster Bomb - a contemporary performing artist collective, Poet John Gibbens, Vinyl Therapy - low fi record spinning AKA Clive Shaw and Gregory Williams – abstract drawing.
The Cluster Bomb collective performed over two evenings with artists Emma Louvelle & Kerstin Möller (One Day I Was A Sparrow/The Day I Brew), Charlotte CHW (Here/Now), Alicia Radage, Eliza Soroga (Voyeur). Vinyl Therapy AKA Clive Shaw was there with his low key, low fi record spinning as was Poet John Gribbens whose promenade performance included a police cell and the steps of the police station. Gregory Williams performed his unique abstract drawing at various places in the station. Degrees of Freedom had a series of site specific installations interrogating Britain’s very own security state. Ahmed Farooqui put the audience (and sometimes himself) in a cage within a cage to explore the elasticity of human rights in the security state; Graham Asker pondered two characters set a surveillance assignment who were in reality stalking each other; Rebecca Feiner’s work explored deaths at the hands of the police and the cycle of the police investigating the police; and Esperanza Gomez-Carrera placed a birthing chair with a leaping male figure at the centre of her work. |
